Raising A Reader Aspen to Parachute provides evidence-based programs that foster early literacy for kindergarten reading readiness and programs to build reading success during the first few years of school. Currently our programs reach more than 2,000 children from Aspen to Parachute.
This summer, we are partnering with Roaring Fork School District, Family Resource Centers, Valley Settlement Project and Aspen Community Foundation's Cradle to Career initiative, to provide a five-week Jumpstart summer-school program for at-risk children entering kindergarten this fall. Raising A Reader is providing weekly book bags for 60 children at Basalt Elementary and Crystal River Elementary, and we are facilitating weekly parent-engagement workshops at each school.

RAISING A READER ENTERS KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE CLASSROOMS! Raising A Reader Aspen to Parachute is now helping Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms foster reading success. Book bags contain read-aloud titles AND first-reader books. Parents learn how to help with the learn-to-read process and are reminded that reading aloud is still important in the K-1 years.
CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS NEEDED If you are not currently reading monthly in a classroom, you are missing a fun and rewarding experience. Contact us to learn how you can become a classroom reader.
OUR MISSION is to foster early literacy bonds between children and their parents to ensure that all young children from Aspen to Parachute develop a love of books and the skills to become successful readers.
