IT’S ALL ABOUT, “BEHAVIOR THAT SPARKS A CONVERSATION” We found this in an Oct. 11, 2014 article in the New York Times on literacy development.  “Parents who used conventional books were more likely to engage in what education researchers call ‘dialogic reading,’ the sort of back-and-forth discussion of the story and its relation to the child’s life that research has shown are key to a child’s linguistic development. What we’re really after in reading to our children is behavior that sparks a conversation.”

RAISING A READER ENTERS KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE CLASSROOMS!   Welcome Two Rivers Community School, Basalt Elementary, Wamsley Elementary, Crystal River Elementary and Highlands Elementary – our newest kindergarten classrooms.  Raising A Reader Aspen to Parachute is now helping foster reading success for more than 500 children in kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms. Book bags contain read-aloud titles AND first-reader books. Parents learn how to help with the learn-to-read process and are reminded that reading aloud is still important in the K-1 years.

OUR MISSION is to foster early literacy bonds between children and their parents to ensure that all young children from Aspen to Parachute develop a love of books and the skills to become successful readers.
